About Genesis is Paul Taylor's commentary on the entire book of Genesis. The podcast will take the material of the book in order, as a narrative podcast, sometimes adding explanatory material. It is my intention to add extra material as bonus episodes, through Patreon.

Hello, my name is Paul Taylor. This podcast is called About Genesis the Podcast. I've become fascinated recently by narrative podcasts. It's a fairly new type of podcast and just seems to fit exactly what I want to do. And most of these narrative podcasts basically are fixed to a book that the podcaster has written. You might think, well, that would be just like a serialized version of an audiobook, but actually their narrative podcasts are more subtle than that because they're able to talk around the subject, they're able to offer bonus episodes as well, sometimes behind a paywall, which will go into more depth on related issues. And it just struck me that this was ideal, this sort of format of a narrative podcast was ideal to go with my book about Genesis. Well, let me just tell you a little bit of the background to the book as an introduction to the podcast. I've been talking about the subject of Genesis for a long time. I became a Christian in 1977, I was 15 years old, and I came across creationists about the age of 17. And I started writing and speaking on the subject even at that age. Probably very naive stuff, and nothing I I wrote then has survived, but it was there. On my 18th birthday in August 1979, my older sister Janet bought me a copy of a book called The Genesis Record by Henry Morris. Well this helped to ground my creationist thinking in scripture, and why that's important will become apparent as I get into the various podcast episodes. The Genesis Record is a commentary on the whole book of Genesis, and it was published in 1976, so it was comparatively new when I was given a copy, only about three years old. It's a source of great surprise to me that it remains even today the most recent easy to read commentary on the whole book of Genesis published by a creationist. Though there have been several commentaries published by creationists on the first eleven chapters of Genesis. Theistic evolutionists have been a lot more productive than that, however. There have been easy to read commentaries written by writers such as John Walton, Trem Pelongman, Bruce Walkey, and they've become the mainstay of university theology departments and Bible seminaries. Young pastors emerge from such dark places with a warped and damaged view of the book of Genesis. They've been assured now that they have the conservative evangelical view, not realizing that they've been taught to undermine the truthfulness of Genesis. This has been an issue that's haunted me really throughout my time since uh since uh getting that copy of the Genesis record. In 2003 I wrote and published my first book, Just Six Days, which was a short commentary just going on over the first 11 chapters. Masterbooks took that commentary up eventually and they changed its title to The Six Days of Genesis. There's an unintended consequence of creationists stopping their commentaries at chapter 11 because quite often the people who refer to themselves as conservative evangelicals but who don't believe the literal truth of the early chapters of Genesis are happy to divide Genesis in that way. Uh, where they would comment on the real history of Genesis beginning with chapter 12 with the accounts of Abraham and everything else is that preceded it is just allegory. So I realized uh that there was a need for uh a newer um commentary, and I did actually ask a few questions around to see if some of the people who I respected in the creation world today were writing such a major work, and they weren't. And I wasn't sure whether I had the right to do it, but anyway, I'd started doing this in December 2018. Well, it's 2026, and I've managed to publish this book now, fifty years after the publication of The Genesis Record by Henry Morris. And in all that time, mine is the first such full-length commentary written on the book of Genesis, the whole book of Genesis, from a creationist viewpoint. It's the first one in fifty years since Henry Morris' book. And I knew that it was time for such a thing to come about. For example, I uh when I was working with uh Answers in Genesis, I did do a put together a talk which was called Answers in Genesis 12 and showing that the life of Abraham cannot actually be properly understood unless you have as a context the truthfulness of the first eleven chapters of Genesis. So, as I said, we've now got the whole idea of narrative podcasts, and this podcast hopefully will enable you to dig deeper into that book. Um, I hope you'll consider getting the book. You can find out where to get it by going to my uh publication website, just sixdays.com, just sixdays.com. The book is available in hardback at the moment. I will produce a paperback, I will produce an audiobook, those things take time to do. Yeah, there'll also be a um uh an e-book as well. Those things all take time to do, which I haven't really uh had the time to do during this year, but the hardback is there. The original three-volume version uh of uh about Genesis you can also find. You can find that on Amazon. The hardback you won't find on Amazon. When I do the paperback, you'll be able to get that on Amazon. But the hardback can only be got directly from you can get it directly from uh Ingram Spark, and the uh QR codes and links to do that you'll find on just sixdays.com. You can also buy it on a number of um websites, not Amazon at the moment, but you can find it on the Barnes and Noble website, have a look at that. You can also find it on the Books a Million website. So those are two well-known book websites here in the United States where I live at the moment. And um those of you uh from my home country in the United Kingdom, you won't miss out because if you have a look at the Blackwells website, blackwells.co.uk, you'll find it's available there too. And so you'll be able to get it. And by the way, if you want to order it direct from Ingram Spark through just sixdays.com, there is a link for people in the United Kingdom to be able to get it, so you're not paying shipping costs trying to get it from uh the United States. Uh it's a print-on-demand book, so it can be printed on demand in the United Kingdom, and it can be printed on demand in the United States. So I hope you'll get make uh use of the book and that you'll find it helpful. I also hope that uh you'll enjoy this podcast. Uh, I'm gonna go through the book, uh, as with other narrative um podcasts. I'm going to um try and put some extra material together, some of the things that uh don't really fit into a commentary as such, and uh those extra episodes, the bonus episodes, I want to try and interview some people uh who might have things to say on those subjects, so they'll be slightly different in nature. Um I haven't quite got a platform yet for those bonus episodes. I will keep you informed uh with the regular episodes uh um as to where they are, they'll probably be on Patreon, but as I said, uh I'll keep you informed. This podcast, um the main normal podcast, will be on both Spotify and on uh Apple podcasts, and um there'll be adverts on them. I will sign them up for that, and please remember that I don't necessarily support those adverts because they'll be put there automatically. But as I get the bonus episode system sorted out, I will also have a um a sort of plus version of the uh the podcast so that you can get the uh downloads without adverts. Uh again, it'll probably be through Patreon, but I'm not 100% certain of that at the moment. So watch this space, listen carefully. Well, that's enough for an introduction for now. Uh, the first main episode will be talking about the subject of approaching Genesis, how we actually go about interpreting it, and in addition to that, we'll look at some of the things that we think must have been in place before creation even began. So, those are the two things that you will find out about in uh the first main episode, which uh will be next week, uh, or you'll be able to binge those as you as you get hold of them through your favourite podcast supplier. Many thanks and have a great day. About Genesis the podcast is brought to you by Just Six Days Publication. It is written, presented and operated by me, Paul Taylor.
